Over 4.5 Billion people could die from Global Warming-related causes by 2012

A recent scientific theory called the “hydrate hypothesis” says that historical global warming cycles have been caused by a feedback loop, where melting permafrost methane clathrates (also known as “hydrates”) spur local global warming, leading to further melting of clathrates and bacterial growth.

In other words, like western Siberia, the 400 billion tons of methane in permafrost hydrate will gradually melt, and the released methane will speed the melting. The effect of even a couple of billion tons of methane being emitted into the atmosphere each year would be catastrophic.

The “hydrate hypothesis” (if validated) spells the rapid onset of runaway catastrophic global warming. In fact, you should remember this moment when you learned about this feedback loop-it is an existencial turning point in your life. By the way, the “hydrate hypothesis” is a weeks old scientific theory, and is only now being discussed by global warming scientists. I suggest you Google the term.

Now that most scientists agree human activity is causing the Earth to warm, the central debate has shifted to when we will pass the tipping point and be helpless to stop the runaway Global Warming.

There are enormous quantities of methane trapped in permafrost and under the oceans in ice-like structures called clathrates. The methane in Arctic permafrost clathrates is estimated at 400 billion tons.

Methane is more than 20 times as strong a greenhouse gas as CO2, and the atmosphere currently contains about 3.5 billion tons of the gas.

The highest temperature increase from global warming is occurring in the arctic regions-an area rich in these unstable clathrates. Simulations from the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) show that over half the permafrost will thaw by 2050, and as much as 90 percent by 2100.

Peat deposits may be a comparable methane source to melting permafrost. When peat that has been frozen for thousands of years thaws, it still contains viable populations of bacteria that begin to convert the peat into methane and CO2.

Western Siberia is heating up faster than anywhere else in the world, having experienced a rise of some 3C in the past 40 years. The west Siberian peat bog could hold some 70 billion tonnes of methane. Local atmospheric levels of methane on the Siberian shelf are now 25 times higher than global concentrations.

By the way, warmer temperatures and longer growing seasons have caused microbial activity to increase dramatically in the soil around the world. This, in turn, means that much of the carbon long stored in the soil is now being released into the atmosphere.

Releases of methane from melting oceanic clathrates have caused severe environmental impacts in the past. The methane in oceanic clathrates has been estimated at 10,000 billion tons.

55 million years ago a global warming chain reaction (probably started by volcanic activity) melted oceanic clathrates. It was one of the most rapid and extreme global warming events in geologic history.

Humans appear to be capable of emitting CO2 in quantities comparable to the volcanic activity that started these chain reactions. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, burning fossil fuels releases more than 150 times the amount of CO2 emitted by volcanoes.

Methane in the atmosphere does not remain long, persisting for about 10 years before being oxidized to CO2 (a greenhouse gas that lasts for hundreds of thousands of years). Chronic methane releases oxidizing into CO2 contribute as much to warming as does the transient methane concentrations.

To summarize, human activity is causing the Earth to warm. Bacteria converts carbon in the soil into greenhouse gasses, and enormous quantities are trapped in unstable clathrates. As the earth continues to warm, permafrost clathrates will thaw; peat and soil microbial activity will dramatically increase; and, finally, vast oceanic clathrates will melt. This global warming chain reaction has happened in the past.

Atmospheric concentrations of CO2 rose by a record amount over the past year. It is the third successive year in which they have increased sharply. Scientists are at a loss to explain why the rapid rise has taken place, but fear the trend could be the first sign of runaway global warming.

Runaway Global Warming promises to literally burn-up agricultural areas into dust worldwide by 2012, causing global famine, anarchy, diseases, and war on a global scale as military powers including the U.S., Russia, and China, fight for control of the Earth’s remaining resources.

Over 4.5 billion people could die from Global Warming related causes by 2012, as planet Earth accelarates into a greed-driven horrific catastrophe.

  1. Juan Santos Says:

This is by no means a new theory; it has long been posited that the Great Dying 250 million years ago when 90% of life on Earth was wiped out - was caused by the melting of frozen methane. Nonetheless, the figures from the National Center for Atmospheric Research on permafrost thaw are stunning. James Lovelock has said that by 2100 the Earth will only be able to support 500 million people; I have to wonder if that is not optimistic.

I would very much like to know where you got the figures for 4.5 billion deaths by 2012. Please reply, giving your source for that figure, and some info on the causes of such a death rate occurring so quickly.

  2. Duderman Says:

2012!!! 2012!!! That’s five years from now. Get Real.

By the way, the Clathrate Gun hypothesis is relatively new, but not weeks old (try 2003), and is built on evidence from the santa barbara basin that linked probably marine methane release (probably hydrates, what else?) with the Paleocene-Eocene maxima. However, more recent evidence from ice cores in Antartica shows little support for Kennett’s hypothesis, and most in the community now doubt much of this link (as suggestive and enabling of hyperbole as it is)….

  3. Bill Says:

Catastrophic Runaway global warming has happened before a number of times in Earth’s history.james Lovelock, who is not a misanthrope but has children and grandchildren of his own, believes the Positive feedback amplification has already begun and our climate is heading for serious overheating and resulting biosphere die off, including us ! Except that the time scale is out more to the end of the century,or at least decades.

I saw a BBC program about climate change titled “The Siberian time bomb” about methane release there. Melting is happening such that building foundations are collapsing and being saved by concreting them! Permafrost is melting so fast mammoth bones,10’s of thousands years old, are being found routinely. methane is escaping from expanding lakes as melting continues :This was shown by a person:Imagine a plastic 2 litre milk container, the bottom is wide the mouth narrow for pouring the milk, cut off the bottom now open and take the lid off the top pouring nozzle, place the open wide bottom on the surface of the expanding siberian lake with the drinking nozzle vertical to the air,any gas escaping up into that open bottom will funnel out the top nozzle, not milk this time!

The person did this and THEN LIT A LIGHTER OVER THE NOZZLE ! A FLAME COMBUSTED AND CONTINUED BURNING ALL FROM A SMALL AREA LIKE THE BOTTOM OF A 2 LITRE MILK PLASTIC CONTAINER! THIS VISIBLY DEMONSTRATED THE ESCAPE OF METHANE FOR ALL TO SEE!

Only Lovelock has the courage to say the game may be up for us humans, though we will survive but on a very different planet,The other scientists who understand that this not unlikely worst case scenario(?) are afraid of being shot as messengers of bad news,or storm crows!

Positive feedback is already happening ie amplification As the north pole icewill, its being predicted totally vanish in summer by 2040 but will return in the Winter. That is a tipping point in anyone’s book!
According to lovelock’s Gaia Principle the biosphere and its temperatures were managed for the benefit of life by life itself! If Temps were too high, then carbon and other gases were removed by living processes from the atmosphere to make the greenhouse effect just right for life, that carbon was buried in the form of coal, oil and gas .What we have gone and dug up,burned and put back into the atmosphere in astronomical quantitities,If Temps were too cold then all Life cooperated to put more co2 or gasses back into the atmosphere to heat things to the right Temps suitable for life at the time.Life on this planet also adapted this process to the Sun’s ever increasing heat as the millions of years went past.
So:? the Biosphere was being managed for us by all life on this planet, which worked against Temps too cold or too hot,so all living things could be comfortable and continue.
This regulatory system was blown away by us as we burnt all these deliberately sequestered carbon deposits in a massive release of usable energy, thereby usurping the biospheres management role for the planet.
Now to reduce climate change we are talking of copying nature by releasing the energy but burying,as nature did,the by product carbon.
Us Humans aren’t evil,we just didn’t realise the consequences of what we were doing, that’s all. We’ve fallen into a sort of Faustian Trap!

  4. Jose Says:

This is not new, feedback mechanisms will make warming a lot faster than any prediction I’ve seen. What I DO NOT UNDEDRSTAND is why nobody mentions that there is always a period of warming before a long lasting ice age. Warming will be short, it’s the ice age coming after what we have to worry about.

Warming will cause droughts in areas that depend on water that comes from glaciers (rain will run off as it falls, it will not accumulate as snow and later released little by little as the ice in mountains melts).

Warming will make permafrost and cold regions available for agriculture, so famine might not be as bad as predicted (of course thare will be a period of adaptation until we devise new ways of distribution/delivery of agricultural products). People leaving in cold areas will be affected, animals will go extinct (but nobody really cares about animals, we certainly don’t care now).

But after that brief period of warming the Gulf Stream will stop and probably similar currents on the South hemisphere will stop too, then the Ice age will settle. Check “www.iceagenow.com” for list glaciers that are actually growing and cities that are actually getting cooler.

  5. Dave Blackman Says:

I would interested to know who it is that is releasing the figures for the death toll, timescale and reasons for rapid global warming. For the last ten to twenty years we’ve been hearing (if we’ve had our ears open) that the New World Order plan to Nazify the whole planet by 2012, that they intend to depopulate the planet by approximately 2 thirds, that’s around 4.5 billion give or take half a billion and the HAARP project in Alaska (and other locations) is more responsible for [deliberate?] global warming than human activity - coinicidence? Add to this the fact that Meucci (1800s), Nathan Stubblefield (1800s) and Nikola Tesla (late 1800s and early 1900s) were all able to suck electrical power straight out of the ground using little more than coils and antennas, plus the enormous amount of people that have found other types of power production without fossil fuel use (John Bedini, John Hutchison etc) and not forgetting the 150 or so people that have been “disappeared” immediately after trying to get a patent on their power development - all of which has been suppressed in favour of oil dollars and it starts to smell like a huge dead rat - or is it just the methane?

  6. Robert Says:

The only real question is, “What is going to have to happen, for this to stop [if it can be stopped]?” The answer must be that deadly force will have to be used against those who refuse to cease activities that contribute to it.

  7. JARL AHLBECK Says:

During the extremely warm climate period abt. 4000 BC no runaway occured. The hydrate hypothesis was tested at that time and simply rejected.

  8. The Optimist Says:

This is quite amusing, all this worry about global warming. It must be that you all believe you will live long enough to be there when it happens? That ANYONE will be still alive when it happens? You can’t even stop the warmongering presidents of the world, how can you stop global warming?

But you are correct about 2012, if you follow the Mayan calendar. There had to be a reason why the last day was December 21, 2012 ( http://www.greatdreams.com/2012.htm ).

Unfortunately, even if you shut down every coal burning device or machine, there are so many coal mines burning below ground, it would make very little difference.

Humanity has been raping this planet destroying everything including his own species for centuries. It’s time to pay the Piper.

  9. wendell krossa Says:

Interesting to read this. What about all the previous warming cycles including the medieval warming period where the Earth was as warm if not warmer than today? We know so little about feedback loops in nature and gazzillions of other variables that influence what happens during these repeated warming/cooling cycles over Earth’s history. What we do know is that life has survived and prospered quite well through all such cyclicity. Evidence? Pinch yourself. And check your health and lifestyle compared to most any period in the past. Ahhh, we need to be careful of falling for for apocalyptic hysteria. It makes us look so silly. Like Paul Erhlich agitating people with the threats of mass starvation and global cooling in the 70s. But it does get people like him lots of awards. We love to be entertained by fear.

  10. Reid Westland Says:

We have been running a dead heat race for along time; human numbers, technology, disease, the effluents of our affluence and war. It’s not that we have not known about the race, it’s that we thought we could win it by just applying more technology to support more of us. Now the jig maybe up and it should come as no surprise. Great hubris/pride usually comes before a great fall.
Our theologies in the West have deified and edified us into a delusion of specialness and now we will pay if the envisioned scenarios are in any great degree true!

  11. Darwin Says:

Evolution will out. It’s kinda like the number of snowmobilers who die going through ice every winter. Like haven’t they been told they are irritating?? I think one less intractable snowmobiler. Now magnify that to a species that has a political structure that is used to bomb, kill, maim, people far far overseas in say, Iraq, or Afghanistan, so dumb asses like Harper, MacKay and other slimey ilk can grandstand and photo op. And the mass of people can do NOTHING to stop it. Ditto the environment. Ask kids under 25 why Canadian forests were clear cut by barbarians, and they have said “because back in the 60’s they didn’t KNOW any better” HEy Honey. If you put your ass in front of the bulldozers….the neofascist police hauled your ass off to jail. So my point is this. If we all fry to bits…the dummies won.

  13. Nina Fulford Says:

Are you so sure that mankind is causing this situation? I understand from a science site that the Sun is overheating and that the Earth is not the only planet that is getting warmer. All of the inner planets are heating up. Could this be a continuous cycle that the Sun goes through every so many centuries? That would explain the many different ages and changes of life on this planet wouldn’t it?

  14. BillBC Says:

This is certainly an alarming hypothesis. It’s weakened somewhat by the figure of 4.5 billion dead. Why that number, instead of, say, 4.0, or 3.8, or X.X? Are they going to die all at once? Now there’s a release of gases to fear. Rationale, please.

  15. Peter Mackenzie Says:

Yes, 2012 is plausible. Cold areas on planet Earth moderate very hot areas. Destroy the cold areas with icebergs, and humans along with other living creatures, will bake like a turkey in the oven for Christmas. Nature can work very, very suddenly, i.e. tornados and hurricanes.. and such “real” Global Warming with no climate moderation from destroyed cold climatic areas, would precipiate very quickly with even worse catastrophic consequences than what human beings are currently experiencing.

  16. Philanthropist Says:

Oh well, sounds like a done deal.

  17. Nurse Riches Says:

Duderman is quite right in saying that the Clathrate Gun Hypothesis predates this new Hydrate Hypothesis, though the Clathrate Gun Hypothesis originates prior to 2001 at least. This is all just re-arranging the deckchairs on the Titanic, though.

Anyone interested in the miserable story of how Oil Industry shills pounced with glee on the Clathrate Gun Hypothesis and declared it the ramblings of eco-terrorists and their enablers should do a spot of Googling to acquaint themselves with the whole sordid excercise of ridicule, contempt and dis-information launched against Michael Benton, Richard Twitchett, Gerry Dickens, Paul Wignall et al.

In view of yesterday’s reports of overwhelmingly strong smells of gas all over Manhattan, Brooklyn, Jersey City, Weehawken, and Newark, and the recently discovered Methane venting coming from the Hudson Submarine Canyon, which extends 400 miles into the Atlantic from the New York-New Jersey harbour, I wonder for how long will the American public continue to sit on their dull, greedy, wilfully-ignorant backsides as the world suffers at their hands?

Whilst I readily accept the possibility that the mysterious gas may not be coming from the Hudson Submarine Canyon (time will tell on that), I think it’s pretty much undeniable that the now-unstoppable release of unblievably large volumes of ancient Methane deposits is now an inevitability, and we have no agreed strategies whatsoever in place to deal with this impending global disaster.

If I may quote Wayne Madsen on yesterday’s Rense.com:

“George W. Bush continues to insist that global warming is “silly science” based on “fuzzy math.” Corporate news media masters are pressuring plastic-faced and neatly-coiffured TV weathermen to treat the current abnormal warm weather as an unexpected “gift” for their viewers. The latte-sipping and SUV-driving yuppies in Washington, DC are certainly taking the current weather abnormality in stride — they almost appear ecstatic about the weather, obviously unaware that the future of our planet is hanging on a thread.” (end quote)

On what date, I wonder, will all those Oil Executives and their miserable Political gimps be brought to account for the treasonous act of blinding the World to the truth for nothing more than personal power and wealth? On what date will they be made to forfeit their obscene wealth to atone for their corruption and greed?

Love and wishful thinking from London!

  18. Graham Day-Myron Says:

The timeline for this to happen is shocking, it is also indicative of the fact that we are powerless to stop it. I doubt that instant cessation of human activity would or could damp the cycle or even ameliorate it to a later date.

One question that occurs to me; regarding other planets in the solar system also experiencing “global” warming. I saw a brief blurb on this subject, but failed to save it. Does anyone have input on this phenomena?

  19. Bob King Says:

I think that we are all on the right track on this problem. We have only to convince the remaining 300 million Americans of this issue, and not point fingers as to who or what is doing this. I really think that the tripping point has already tripped, and ALL of our resources must focus on changing our farming methods and water conservation in order to allow as many of our children to survive as possible.

Please put pressure on the “new” congress to force our fearless leader to stop wasting money on dull-witted wars, and start thinking about the very near future.

Santos, Duderman, and Bill are right: where did you get 4.5 billion dead earthlings by…2012? Five years from now? But…by 2040, things should get REALLY interesting on ol’ Planet Earth. So what is the estimated data that global warming releases enough water into the Atlanta that the circulatory system stops, leading to the next global event - cooling. Does the cooling cycle kick in in time to prevent the calculated tons of the trapped methane from being released into the atmosphere. It’s not one steady drive in one direction - the warming leads to cooling.

Never mind methane @ 20 times worse for global warming, there is a fluoride gas that is over 20,000 times worse than co2. Not much is said about that is it? Until human activity can face the truth, and not be ruled by money and clout, I as a pretty powerless consumer, sees little hope for the future.

Rent will be cheap so I can just rent a house. I have a friend with a boat, will we be better off out on the water?

    For Cliff Taylor,

    I went by the dates I found in most references to the Mayan calendar, to wit;

“The date December 21st, 2012 A.D. (13.0.0.0.0 in the Long Count), represents an extremely close conjunction of the
Winter Solstice Sun with the crossing point of the Galactic Equator (Equator of the Milky Way) and the Ecliptic
(path of the Sun), what that ancient Maya recognized as the Sacred Tree. This is an event that has been coming to
resonance very slowly over thousands and thousands of years. It will come to resolution at exactly 11:11 am GMT.”

  29. J. Nayer Hardin Says:

It’s time to stop being stupid about our environment. Past time.

A world environmental emergency needs to be declared by the United Nations. The international priority, greater than any single nation, is to reverse the effects of global warming and create only environmentally supportive actions in the future.

Well, no, and no. First of all, this chain reaction has NOT happened in the past if your claim is that ‘human activity is causing the Earth to warm’, because there were no humans to blame back then. Secondly, there is *still* no substantiated proof that human activity is causing climate change as it is occurring now. Many have attempted to bend some figures and research into the option to blame it on humanity, but none have proven to be true, especially in the light of the recent extreme rise of CO2 while humans are not emitting more of it.

Your article tends to help governments in blaming their citizen for all of this, that way making them pay more taxes, so the richest can take all the money and migrate in time to areas where climate change has the least of an impact on life as we know it. Pity for you is that we do not all fall for this trickery. Stop blaming humans for something that has been going on for ages before we even existed.

  35. What’s Good For GM May End Up Killing Us All | Outlaw News Says:

[…] Erstwhile GM Chairman “Engine” Charlie Wilson once famously opined, back in the ’50s, that “What’s good for General Motors is good for America.” What to make, then, of the latest announcement that GM is planning to set up a plant in China to produce Aveo cars–200,000 a year to start–and to become “a household word” in China? No doubt, before long, they’ll be talking like Chrysler, which is planning to co-produce cars with China’s Cherry Automotive Co. for the global market, including the U.S. Obviously, having Chinese workers making American cars, whether for the Chinese domestic market or for the global or US market, is a bad idea for American workers, and ultimately for America. It might–though not necessarily–mean cheaper cars for Americans, but the cost would be yet another hammer blow to one of the country’s major industries.

But there’s a much bigger problem with this picture. It’s Global Warming, which is looking scarier by the day. The latest bad news is that the vast tundra expanses above the Arctic Circle, stretching from northern Scandinavia, and on to Alaska and Canada’s Yukon and Northwest Territories are losing their permafrost. As a result, millenia’s worth of decayed vegetation and peat are suddenly being thawed and exposed to the atmosphere, and are already spewing out ungodly quantities of methane–a gas that is over 20 times as potent a global warming blanket as is carbon dioxide.

What this means is explained in some recent articles that have run in the Canadian and European media–but not in the U.S. media, which is too focussed on Barbaro’s latest injury to pay attention. (For more on this nightmare scenario, check out: The Hydrate Hypothesis in The Canadian, Siberian Thaw to Speed Up Global Warming in The Observer, as well as Runaway Global Heating in Countercurrents) Scientists warn that the methane phenomena means the predictions regarding the pace of global warming–both optimistic and pessimistic–are way too conservative.

Global warming is not, as was formerly thought, going to slowly creep up on us over the course of the century, but will more likely be sprung on us, perhaps over the next 5-10 years. It may even be too late to do anything about it, since there’s nothing that can be done in terms of cutting gas emisions that will re-cool the earth and refreeze the permafrost.

Is it just me, or is there something obscene about the American car industry, which did so much to ruin America over the last century and to create the global warming crisis in the first place, going to China with the goal of ruining the world altogether by putting a car in every Chinese home? I’m not sure what can be done at this point. We need not just a union, but a shareholder rebellion at Chrysler and GM. No more damned cars spewing out exhaust into the air. Make ‘em so they use hydrogen or just shut the assemblylines down! But we need more than that.

We need a new political movement that targets parents and grantparents, and makes them focus on what is facing their offspring, instead of on how much gas costs, or whether their 401 K is growing fast enough. It’s time for a new paradigm. One that doesn’t start with: “Growth is good.” Not any more it isn’t. Growth is deadly. Al Gore made a nice film, but it has an unrealistically upbeat ending: we can turn this around if we act in the next ten years. In that he’s wrong. Al didn’t factor in the methane problem, and other positive feedbacks that are making a bad situation worse.

The truth is – and you can say you read it here – we are past the point of avoiding global warming. It’s here and it’s trying to kill us all. Now it’s about survival and minimizing the scale of the disaster. The first step is to stop making things worse, and that certainly means not helping and encouraging China to become a car society. From there, we need to start thinking about a new kind of society – one where people live frugally, eat locally, work where they live, share what they have - and where they plant a lot of trees.

Capitalism is finished, folks. It won’t do to base a social system on the idea that people can invest and make a profit through growth, because growth for growth’s sake means encouraging demand, and that just means more energy and consumption. End result: more global warming. Socialism, at least the socialism of our era, is dead too, because it simply boils down to the notion, in one way or another, of making all citizens in a society stakeholders in the national corporation. It’s still premised on the idea of growth as a positive good. We need to give that all up and think about a society built around the concept of sustainability and about sharing in ways that will permit us to downsize our demands. No more pool in every yard, no more car in every driveway, no more house for every family. We need to start thinking collectively.

This, I’m sure, all sounds crazy in an American context. It would sound pretty crazy in China too, I know. But check out that methane, and tell me you want the alternative. We are all on this globe, and we’re going to survive collectively, or die collectively. As for GM, let’s tell them if they go build those cars in China, they won’t be seeing us in their showrooms. Pathetic, I know, but hey, it’s a start. […]

  36. J. Nayer Hardin Says:

We have no time to waste. 2012 is now 4 years 11 months and 2 weeks (as of Jan 14, 2007) away. If the air is replaced with a toxic mix of too much methane, I won’t hit my goal of being 100 when I grow up. We have got to get off of toxic energy immediately and plant hemp and other air scrubbing plants. Failure to do so will have, shall we say, devastating consequences.

Toxic energy needs to be outlawed, immediately. Hemp bio fuel (which can be processed to run in regular engines, both standard and automatic), solar, wind, magnetic (Bruce DePalma’s N Machine), hydro and other clean energy sources that we’ve never heard of (like the transportation systems the UFO dudes use) should be replacing toxic energy. This is not rocket science.

If humanity is to make it, we must use every tool we can to become caretakers of the earth, a role we have failed miserably in over the last two hundred years. Hemp heals.

    Please continue to share ideas.

We have got to save ourselves.

“The literal interpretation of the Maya concept of a World Age shift in 2012 is emphasized by many writers for the sheer drama of it. In this scenario, humanity literally is going to experience cataclysm and upheavel, earthquakes, disasters, famine, and plague. This Earth cleansing, however, is the prelude for a global renewal. While this scenario may seem bleak, the Maya doctrine of World Ages extends back over four previous epochs, each of which ended in cataclysm and the transformation of humanity into something completely new, a new being better suited for life in the new world. So even in this catastrophic scenario, the cyclic renewal of the Earth and the spiritual unfoldment of humanity prevails. ”

Lots of fantastical musings here but little science and/or common sense.

If, as some believe, global warming will cause all the glaciers to melt with an attendant significant rise is sea level, then there will be less methane released into the atmosphere. Think about it: the arctic regions are generally low-lying and any transgressions will inundate large areas of land. While there might be some minor melting in the shallow permafrost, deep permafrost (where most of the methane is stored from upward migration into it) will thus have an insulating blanket of cold water thus precluding any further melting. Permafrost reaches fantastic thicknesses offshore in arctic coast regions as confirmed by drilling, seismic, etc. It gets thicker with time.

Furthermore, clathrates buried under sediments in the oceans (sedimentary prisms in deep continental shelves and slopes) would also be better preserved as they are under equilibrium due to the combination of cold temperatures and high pressures. Remember Boyle’s law? Indeed, with more than 70% of the world covered by water, and the majority of arctic sedimentary basins at or slightly above sea level, global warming should actually DECREASE any release of methane gas into the atmosphere.

If I had a worry, it would be global cooling, since the sea water will be transformed into glacial ice. With that, the sea levels will drop as they did in the Pleistocene (past 2 million years) more than 100 metres lower than they are today. That effectively raises the temperature and lowers the pressure on margin clathrates and they will be released catastrophically – pop! Just like a champagne bottle. In addition, lowering the sea levels will expose all continental shelves and we can kiss the global fishing industry good-bye. Well, if the fishing industry doesn’t wipe them all out first. NOW you’ll get the starvation and famine that other have predicted. And, with a mile or two of ice above most if not all of Canada, Russia and Northern Europe, there will be a mass exodus south. Canadian will have to migrate into the United States with states like Texas being best suited to wait through the next 80,000 years of this ice advance. There have been about 20 during the Pleistocene: ~80 ky of ice and 20 ky warm interglacial period.

Finally, if methane gas is migrating into Manhattan via unknown migration pathways as has been claimed, then why not extract it through drilling and use this much cleaner and cheaper fuel than burning sulphurous Bunker C oil in power plants? Especially in an area like New York that has one of the greatest population densities in the western hemisphere! Why not let the petroleum companies explore for it and then pipe it ashore? A further bonus would be a reduction in ship traffic (more energy use) and especially ships carrying oil or LNG. Cheap, clean fuel literally at their doorstep, reduction in risk to the environment and less money going to extremists regimes in Saudi Arabia, Venezuela and the like – a win-win situation. Even the humanitarians win!

Man, you guys got one great site. But your HUGEST mistake is that of this global warming thingy. I mean, come on!!! Wake up!!! The government has lied to us about EVERYTHING. 9/11. The “War On Terror”. Immigrant amnesty to undermine wages. The North American Union. The fraudulent transfer of the Bank of Canada’s sole right to print money, to the Private banks and paying them interest for it (causing our national debt to skyrocket). So WHY ON EARTH DO YOU BELIEVE THE GLOBAL WARMING ISSUE??? Haven’t you guys figured out yet that the powers that run our countries want A GLOBAL CARBON TAX? Yet another tax to destroy the middle class! Soon they will want to tax us on breathing! I’m not kidding. We exhale CO2. They be calling us polluters for simply living, just like they label us terrorists, in the U.S. Patriot Act Section 802, simply for protesting! Guys, this is really simple. Global warming right now is a natural upswing caused by the sun. I mean, 30 years ago they were trying to scare us into believing that a natural drop in temperature was going to bring an ice age (an excuse to raise oil prices). Ask your parents, they will remember that.

It’s all fear. CO2 is ten times less potent at trapping heat than is water vapour!! It’s all to TAX US! Here are the best links that detail the Global Warming Hoax. Please, please watch and read them before you make up your mind that we need to do anything at all in respect to global warming. We just don’t have to. Let all your fears just fall away. We don’t have to panic about ANYTHING except how our leaders want to financially destroy us! Thank you for your attention. Peace out.

The following could improve your life and lungs, clear cities of smog, and defeat Acmahdinejad.

Three facts - The EV wave has started

[1] General Motors were shocked that their trial electric car of 1993, the EV1, was a wild and addictive public success. Indicating the death of the ICE engine. So much so, that they gathered every last EV1 and crushed them in a secure GM compound. [Rent the video, *Who Killed the Electric Car*.]

[2] Chevron / absorbed Texaco and gained control of patents for the large format NiMH battery. The ideal BATTERY FOR AUTO-MOTION. For nay, they have no wish to keep us dependent upon products of their 8 to 12 Billion$ refineries and their giant distribution networks.

[3] Suspect ye not the governments, who, [at the moment], have no idea how to bring in tractor trailer loads of money on the 8 to 16 cents of charge required by EVs that can plug in anywhere anytime.

The Electric Vehicle wave has started and is well under way. The range of the GM *93 EV-1 was 130 miles. Today, a range between charges of 250 miles is reasonable, however smaller NEVs [neighbourhood electric vehicles], of a 40 mile range are popular and sell for only 12 to 14k.

Freedom from the grip of volatile gas, [remember the *70s empty gas pumps?], makes the EV a life-saver that pays for itself. A solar panel roof can provide an extended range. = TG

I’M DOWN, I’M REALLY DOWN by Barry Chamish

Try to see it my way
Only time will tell if I am right or I am wrong.
    - Kadima Party Jingle

How can you laugh, when you know Israel’s down? What is so amusing about the Winograd Commission whitewash? Admittedly, it could be construed as humorous, a whole commission on the last war in Lebanon without a word about the eight dead soldiers and three kidnappings that started it. Not a whisper of Maj.-Gen. Giora Eiland’s IDF inquiry into the kidnapping of Gideon Shalit and his shocking conclusion that, “Most damningly, Eilat affirmed that the corporal’s abduction could have been aborted. The kidnappers and their hostage were clearly visible on the unit’s electronic screens as they crossed the border into the Gaza Strip, but the tank commander delayed by first asking his superior for permission to open fire and abort their flight.” Not half of half a word of widespread international reports that Regev and Goldwasser were not taken in Israel but were inside Lebanon when they were captured. Not a hint about why the war was initially fought using only the air force.

I’m really down, down on the ground. And the Druse know it. Which is why they started a pogrom to rid the town of Peki’in of its Jews and did so with impunity. “12.03.07 Last Jewish family leaves Peki’in - De Jung family, who emigrated from Holland four months ago, flee Druze village after locals torch their car. All nine Jewish families who used to live in Peki’in leave due to repeated harassment.” The Druse flow with the winning side and it’s not Israel anymore.

Now even Christan Arabs have joined the winning team: (IsraelNN.com) “Jewish residents of Haifa’s German Colony neighborhood have stood aghast over the past few nights as local Arabs, ostensibly protesting Israel’s closure of the Gaza Strip, wave PLO flags and curse the State and Jews as Jewish passerby helplessly look on. Local journalists have accused the municipality of encouraging the Arabs, by supporting a community center where the organization for the protests take place. Jewish residents have complained that the Arabs, from the adjacent neighborhood of Chalifa, have been bothering them for months, stealing everything that is not nailed down. Last Rosh Hashana, the residents told a reporter, local Christian Arabs conducted an “Easter parade,” led by torches – which they used to light and burn flammable items in the front yards’ of Jewish residents as they marched down the street, causing much damage.”

Don’t you know I’m down, I’m really down? So with Jews banned from living in any Arab town, Druse, Muslim or Christian, let’s invite them to live peacefully in our neighborhoods.
JERUSALEM (JTA) — “At Cafe Malcha in this city’s French Hill neighborhood, Hebrew and Arabic newspapers sit on the counter and both languages are spoken amid the din of espresso machines and customers’ laughter. The number of Arabs moving into French Hill, as well as other Jewish neighborhoods of Jerusalem, is rising.”

You don’t cry cause you’re laughing at me. Since Hamas breached the wall to Egypt, so many suicide squads are running around the new 125 mile war border, even the terrorists weren’t sure who blew up in Dimona. So to make sure the next attack in the south is even more deadly, let’s repress the Jews fighting for their land. Over 600 Gush Katif expellees still face court for protesting their forced removal from their homes, two Tel Aviv protesters, Mordechai and Elitsur Harel just got 30 and 40 months in the can for fighting the insane rulers and seven girls, all minors, were arrested, held for two weeks and forcibly strip searched. You want to see the how that indignity works, watch the American cops at work: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Qvip6Sanp4

And those poor, blind Israelis who think we’re all alone and there’s nobody else. They are trying to press the Shas Party to leave the government and bring it down. They don’t know that Shas from its inception was blackmailed by the Peres gang to secure the Moroccan vote, or that Deputy Prime Minister Chaim Ramon initially bribed Shas leader Arye Deri with $50,000 to utilize his 23 year old skills to negotiate the sale of the Carmel Bank, or that in 1996 PM Netanyahu appointed today’s Finance Minister Ronnie Bar-On as Attorney General so he could get Deri a jail saving plea bargain in return for Shas agreeing to the Hebron withdrawal.

The deluded mad folks running Israel insist that we can work it out and get it straight. If not, they warn, or say good night. Have these mental cases done anything to objectively prove to the confused Jews that they should be locked in a padded cell for good? Indeed they have. In honor of Israel’s 60th anniversary, the government of Israel has invited The Beatles to play for the nation. What the heck, no matter that they haven’t performed publicly in 39 years or that half the band is dead:

Israel to Beatles: We Can Work It Out

(IsraelNN.com) The Israeli government has sent a letter to the sister of the late Beatles member John Lennon, apologizing for banning the group from appearing in Israel in 1965. Government officials at that time feared that such a concert would corrupt the morals of Israeli youth. The government now is trying to make amends and has invited the Beatles to appear at the 60th anniversary celebrations of the re-establishment of the Jewish state. “We should like to take this opportunity to correct the historic omission which to our great regret occurred.”

    NETANYAHU AND THE CFR

Benjamin “Bibi” Netanyahu was spotted at MIT in 1973 and the grooming began there when
he was in his early twenties. After graduating, he received a high paying
job at Boston Consulting. His boss was Ira Magaziner (CFR). But he quit the
job in 1979, returned to Israel, staring selling furniture at the Rim company, then
organized an anti-terror convention. Inexplicably, the CFR sent a team of their
biggest guns including George Bush Sr., Richard Perle and George
Shultz to this unknown 27 year old’s get-together. Once the convention was over,
Netanyahu returned to work selling home furniture for three years until 1982, when Washington
Ambassador Moshe Arens invited him to be his deputy. He claimed the choice
was indirectly made by those who came to his convention and “were impressed
with his performance.” That means Bush and Shultz pressed Arens to bring
Bibi to Washington. From there, they pushed his career higher. In 1985,
Shultz chaired another anti-terror convention in Washington supposedly
organized by Netanyahu. By the time Bibi was UN Ambassador Schultz visited
him every time he was in New York, and that was often.
Having groomed and financed Netanyahu into office, the CFR made certain
his tenure as head of the opposition did not endanger the Oslo process.
Though Netanyahu had the goods and scandals to fell Labor, he was a
    remarkably restrained opposition leader.
In September 1995, PM Rabin told what he thought was a funny story on
Israel Television One. It seems his CFR handler, Henry Kissinger phoned him
to relate that Netanyahu called to ask him to declare that American troops
would not be placed on the Golan Heights as part of a peace deal with Syria.
Who Kissinger was supposed to make this declaration to was not revealed.
Kissinger, according to Rabin, laughed at Bibi and told him to quit
bothering him. The next day Netanyahu confirmed his phone call but denied
    Rabin’s mocking version of it.
The moral of the story is that both the leader of the government and
opposition got their commands from their CFR officer.

  46. Michael Says:

Many researchers have expressed that global warming issues cannot be solved unless China starts to participate in a major way. If someone out there has a good idea on how to get China to participate that would be really awesome. It is not about the consumption of oil, but rather how the goods are being manufactured also determines what is dumped into the oceans.

  47. GlynnMhor of Skywall Says:

People might want to see the actual state of global temperature change:

    http://www.cru.uea.ac.uk/cru/data/temperature/nhshgl.pdf

The warming of 1971-2001 or so has stopped, and since 2005 cooling is quite clear.

As to the Mayans and 2012, they calculated their Great Cycles backwards, and in 2012 there is a Transit of Venus visible from meso-america, so that explains why that year was chosen. Doubtless they planned to calculate a new calendar as their end date approached, but the collapse of their culture precluded that.

  48. Burke Says:

I think we are more at risk from hyperbole that global warming. In order to make the news each successive global warming prediction has to be more dramatic than the last. So now we are down to four years, great. Given that no other global warming prediction/forecast/model has been correct I think I’ll just go on about my life. I do not believe it possible to convince the true believers that no dramatic change has occurred in the data and that this is all a farce. It has gone beyond reason. I suggest that if you really believe that 4.5 billion people will be dead in four years then I think that you should play it smart and get to the front of the line.

  49. claire Says:

Well, if 4.5 billion die, that would more or less take care of the problem, no?? Why are you sad?
